Editorial: Shop downtown now more than ever

The Broadway construction had made accessing downtown merchants difficult, but that doesn’t mean the businesses are not open. They are.

We urge our readers to venture to the businesses through their alley entrances. People will find helpful service from local friends, just as if they came in the front door.

Shopping local is a good way to support the Albert Lea economy. It shows who takes pride in Albert Lea. Dollars spent downtown help keep these merchants in business during the difficult construction months. They have been there for customers, and now they need customers to be there for them. We want businesses in our downtown for jobs, for making a good impression on outsiders and for a strong local economy.

It might be a little bit more difficult to find a parking space, but shopping downtown will be worth the walk.
