Lake Mills falls to No. 1 team

The Lake Mills softball team’s season ended Wednesday with a 12-2 loss in five innings to No. 1 North Union in the second round of the Class 2A Region 2 tournament.

When the Bulldogs took on the Warriors on June 25, North Union swung its way to a six-run lead in the second inning en route to a 12-0 win.

After trailing 2-0 in the postseason rematch, Lake Mills knotted the score at two in the second inning.

“We were hanging tough,” Lake Mills head coach Rick Orban said.

However, North Union responded by scoring seven runs in the third to take a comfortable lead and earn the win.

Emily Orban of Lake Mills showed control in the pitching circle. She struck out four batters and didn’t allow any walks.

Katlyn Eidness led the Bulldogs at the plate. She had two hits and an RBI.

Lake Mills finished the season with an overall record of 13-14.

“I had a lot of fun this season,” coach Orban said. “There is a bright future with a lot of talent coming back.”

The Bulldogs had the fourth-most hits in the North Iowa Conference (192) and the second-fewest strikeouts (91).

On an individual basis, Megan Johnson was fifth in the conference with 24 RBIs and Sarah Orban was fourth with 29 runs scored.
