Lake Mills heads to 2nd round

The Lake Mills baseball team is off to a strong start in the postseason.

The Bulldogs took down Ackley-Geneva-Wellsburg-Steamboat Rock 10-8 on Tuesday in the first round of the Class 1A District 4 tournament.

Lake Mills improved to 15-13 overall with the victory.

The Bulldogs jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the first inning, but they had to hold on late in the game as AGWSR outscored Lake Mills 7-1 in the final three innings.

Paul Scholbrock led the Bulldogs on the mound. He pitched five innings, struck out five batters and allowed two earned runs.

Josh Peters led Lake Mills at the plate. He was three for five with two RBIs.

Next, the Bulldogs will play at North Butler at 7 p.m. Thursday.

North Butler (18-5) beat Clarksville (12-7) 4-1 in the first round.
