Majority leader hosting roundtablePublished 1:10pm Thursday, July 11, 2013
Minnesota House Majority Leader Erin Murphy and District 27A Rep. Shannon Savick will host a roundtable discussion today with seniors at St. John’s Lutheran Home to discuss new legislation that impacts seniors and nursing home workers.
The meeting will begin at 2 p.m.
After $1 billion in cuts to the Health and Human Services budget during the last biennium, the new state budget provides a 5 percent increase for nursing home workers and a 1 percent increase for long-term care workers for the first time in four years, according to a news release.
The Legislature also enacted stricter punishments for electronic transfer scams, required stricter background checks for legal guardians, expanded the renter’s credit and approved “no excuse” absentee voting to help senior voters have greater access to the polls on Election Day.
