Man dies in crash west of New Richland

NEW RICHLAND — An Owatonna man was killed Wednesday afternoon after the pickup he was driving was struck broadside by a semi west of New Richland.

Todd C. Owen, 41, was driving eastbound on Minnesota Highway 30 in a 1995 Chevy pickup when a 2007 Peterbilt semitrailer heading south on Highway 83 failed to stop for a stop sign at the intersection and collided with the pickup, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The State Patrol identified the truck driver as Gregory A. Wendinger, 37, of Courtland. The State Patrol indicated Wendinger was taken to the Mankato hospital for injuries that were not life-threatening.

The crash took place at 2:26 p.m. No alcohol was detected. The report states Wendinger was wearing his seat belt, and whether Owen had been wearing his belt was undetermined.

The junction is 11 miles west of New Richland.

The Blue Earth County Sheriff’s Office and Waseca County Sheriff’s Office assisted.
