A.L. falls to West

After the Albert Lea football team took an early lead at Mankato West, the Scarlets exploded in the second quarter with 42 points. Mankato West won 64-14 on Thursday in the season opener for both teams.

Albert Lea quarterback Drew Cole hit tight end Cody Scherff for the first points of the game, but from there it went down hill for the Tigers.

In the fourth quarter, Albert Lea scored on a rushing touchdown by Bany Chan, Tigers head coach Max Jeffrey said.

“Our guys kept after it,” he said. “Hopefully we can make some adjustments and move forward.”

Next, Albert Lea will host a Rochester John Marshall squad coming off a 28-12 win Thursday at Winona. Kickoff is at 7 p.m., Sept. 6.
