A 61-year-old Albert Lea bicyclist was injured Thursday night after he reportedly collided with a car at the intersection of Frank Avenue and East Front Street.
Eddie Alvin Hopper was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea after the crash at 9:06 p.m. Albert Lea police Lt. J.D. Carlson said he was treated and released.
Police reports state Hopper was biking westbound on the sidewalk on the south side of Front Street near the city pool when he crossed the intersection with Frank Avenue and collided with a 2000 Buick Regal driven by Jeffrey Allen Dowd. The Buick was just beginning to turn east on Front Street after being stopped on Frank Avenue.
Dowd told police he did not see Hopper prior to making his turn, and police stated Hopper should have yielded at the intersection. Hopper was not in the Front Street bike lanes.
