Countertops made by Albert Lea-based Granicrete Minnesota will be featured in three upcoming episodes of DIY Network’s “I Hate My Kitchen.”

Granicrete Minnesota, owned by Tom and Jean Eaton, originated in 2008 and has since expanded to include a showroom office in Minneapolis, along with installers in Rochester, Lonsdale, Kasson and Madison.

“I Hate My Kitchen” showcases kitchen makeovers using economical, yet clever, design ideas, according to a press release. It says Granicrete was selected based on its “eco-friendliness, texture, color options and affordability.”

“We’re very excited to have Granicrete be part of such a popular show,” Jean Eaton said. “The show will allow us to further demonstrate and explain how innovative Granicrete is and help us display its artistry.”

The first episode, titled “European Sophistication,” is expected to air at 11 p.m. Tuesday, 2 a.m. Wednesday, 11:30 p.m. Sept. 17, and 2:30 a.m. Sept. 18. It features a home in Brooklyn Park.

The second episode, titled “Loft in the Burbs,” is slated to air at 11 p.m. Sept. 17, 2 a.m. Sept. 18, 11:30 p.m. Sept. 24 and 2:30 a.m. Sept. 25. A third episode will air at a later date.

Eaton said the kitchens in all of the episodes were dated and needed “complete overhauls.”

Granicrete Minnesota was installed in the home of Dirk and Susan DeVries during the “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” in rural Hayward, has been featured on a luxury home tour in Minneapolis with $3 million to $5 million homes and as part of a winning Minnesota State Fair exhibit this year.

“The decorative concrete has caught on,” she said. “It’s an awesome product, and we believe in what we do and we’re having fun.

Granicrete Minnesota is the only overlay company in the world that is National Sanitation Foundation certified.

In addition to homes, the company installs the Granicrete in bars, restaurants and even nursing homes.

Eaton said she hopes to get on “Bath Crashers,” another show on DIY network, next.

The “I Hate My Kitchen” episodes will eventually be aired on HGTV, she said.
