Tigers defeat Winona

The Albert Lea volleyball team earned its sixth Big Nine Conference win on Tuesday in its regular season finale by beating Winona 3-1 at home.

The Tigers lost the first game by four points but came back to win the next three. Game scores were 21-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-16.

“Once we get going and start playing our game, it’s a lot of fun,” Albert Lea head coach Lisa Deyak said.

Annie Ladwig led the Tigers with 18 kills and 23 digs. She also had three blocks and two ace serves.

“Annie had a great night,” Deyak said. “She’s been great all year.”

Bryn Woodside earned a team-high 38 assists.

“She had some amazing sets that led to some great kills,” Deyak said. “Bryn understands the game more every time she gets on the court.”

In the Big Nine standings, the Tigers are in fourth place. Mankato West, a team Albert Lea beat 3-1 on Oct. 1, leads the conference. Rochester Mayo is second and Owatonna is third. Albert Lea has one more conference loss than the Huskies, but Owatonna has two more overall losses.

Next, Albert Lea (15-9 overall, 6-3 Big Nine, 5-2 Section 1AAA) will play at the section tournament. In the 12-team section standings, Albert Lea is in fifth place.
