Hayward 4-H

The Hayward 4-H club met for its monthly meeting Oct. 6 at Al and Shari Wagner’s home. President Kristen Hahn called the meeting to order.

The club has new members and they are Joplin Manuel, Adam and Luke Semple, Alexis Tasker and Karlie Braun. During the meeting the club talked about its upcoming club banquet. It will be at 4:30 p.m. today at the Hayward Lutheran Church.

Several members stood up to talk about their experiences at the state 4-H dog show.

At the end of the meeting, officer elections were held.

The new officers for 2014 will be: Emma Iverson, president, Noah Iverson, vice president, Liana Schallock, secretary, Gigi Otten, treasurer, Derek Wagner, reporter, Alexis Tasker, historian, Bethany Tennis and Sarah De Haan, community pride officers, and Marshall Pederson and Philipp Wagner, Cloverbud directors.

Thank you to the Al Wagner family and the Englin family for hosting the meeting. Following the meeting, a potato bar potluck was enjoyed with a fun barn dance afterward.

The next meeting was planned for today during the club banquet.

 

St. John’s Auxiliary

The St. John’s Auxiliary met at 2 p.m. Oct. 21 in St. John’s chapel. President Caroline Sorenson welcomed everyone. Devotions were given by the Rev. Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister. Becky Nordland played the piano and Norrine Jensen led the group in singing, “Have Thine Own Way” and “In the Garden.”

Auxiliary Secretary Bonnie Schneider read the minutes of the Sept. 16 meeting. Lorraine Schaper gave the treasurer’s report. The reports were approved as read.

Activities Director Shirley Leeman reported on activities that are planned. Johnny Bird Music, Nov. 1, L.A. Sasse, Nov. 5, Sing-a-long with John Ulland, Nov. 7, Richie Z., Nov. 7, Dunnell Lenort, Nov. 9, veterans breakfast and program, Nov. 11, lutefisk/lefse at Emmons Lutheran, Nov. 12, music by Ralph Campbell, Nov. 14, Debbie Nordland music, Nov. 15, Albert Lea High School musical, Nov. 20, lefse making, Nov. 21, Kent Larson music, Nov. 22, Chris Von Arx, Nov. 27, Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, Loren Wolfe, Nov. 29.

In the absence of Carla Reichel, Leeman announced 770 volunteer hours for September.

Vice President Jan Jerdee read the names of residents celebrating October birthdays and the “Happy Birthday” was sung.

Churches thanked for serving Sunday coffee were Salem Lutheran, Concordia Pickerel Lake and East Freeborn Lutheran, twice.

The program was provided by Norrine Jensen, a retired music teacher in Albert Lea. She played and sang several songs such as “Autumn Leaves,” “Shine on Harvest Moon,” “When You’re Smiling,” and “Swing Low Sweet Chariot.” She also told “when you live in Minnesota” sayings and the Norwegian 10 Commandments. Her program was much enjoyed by those in attendance.

Refreshments were served by the St. John’s dietary department.

The Lord’s prayer closed the meeting.
