LAKE MILLS — A Leland, Iowa, woman was injured Monday afternoon after a crash in Winnebago County.

Kelly Renae Gau, 40, was transported by Lake Mills ambulance to Mercy Hospital in Mason City. Her condition this morning was unknown.

The crash took place at 4:34 p.m. at the intersection where gravel 170th Avenue meets Winnebago County Road A30 and U.S. Highway 69.

According to the Iowa State Patrol, Anthony Alois Gau, 42, was driving southbound on 170th Avenue in a 2006 Chrysler minivan when he failed to stop at stop sign at the road’s intersection with County Road A30 and struck a 1997 Ford F-150.

The pickup, driven by John Thomas Kelso, 67, of Lake Mills, was eastbound on County Road A30. The minivan reportedly struck the pickup on the driver’s side, and the pickup went into the south ditch, coming to rest facing south.

The minivan came to rest in the middle of the intersection facing north.

The report stated Kelly Gau was wearing her seat belt and that her life was likely saved from doing so.

The Iowa State Patrol was assisted by the Winnebago County Sheriff’s Office, the Lake Mills Fire Department and the Lake Mills Police Department.
