Janice died on Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014, at St. John’s Lutheran Community. She was 76 years old.
Janice Lorraine Lenzen was born on Jan. 11, 1938, to Roy and Thelma (Fair) Lincoln in Albert Lea. She attended school in Albert Lea. Later she graduated with a degree as a registered nurse from Kirkwood College in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Janice married Ivan Pilcher in Cedar Rapids. To this union five children were born: Gary, Brenda, Terri, Diane and Cindy. The couple later divorced.
Janice worked many jobs throughout her life, and her career brought her to many different places including: Florida, Maine, Iowa and Minnesota. Recently, she worked as a nurse for St. John’s Lutheran Community. She was known at St. John’s for the caring hugs she gave to the residents.
Janice enjoyed cooking, shopping and was a very talented seamstress. Family was very important to Janice. She had a strong personality, and people looked up to her to take control of any situation. She was very generous, soft-hearted and giving — almost to a fault. She had a wonderful sense of humor. Most of all, Janice was blessed to work as a nurse in a career that she truly loved.
Janice is preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Thelma Lincoln; as well as a grandson, Josh Pilcher.
Those left to cherish Janice’s memory include her husband, George Lenzen; children Gary (Carol) Pilcher, Brenda Pilcher, Terri Pilcher, Diane (Noli Jr.) Santos and Cindy (Jeff) Hicks; grandchildren Crystal (Justin) Wirtz, Tiffani (Jeremy) White, Caleb Pilcher, Erich Pilcher, Marjorie (Tom) Heckler, Joseph (Adria) Pilcher, Tonya Santos, Abbey Santos, Anthony Riley, Adam Pilcher and Austin Hicks; great-grandchildren Simeon, Jaren and Avory Wirtz, Gavin, Oliver and Levi Heckler and Wyatt Pilcher; siblings Eugene Turner, Joyce Luhm, Richard Lincoln and Bernie Cornick; as well as many loving nieces, nephews and other relatives.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Benevolence Fund at Berean Assembly of God, 5299 University Ave., Pleasant Hill, IA 50327.
Janice’s family would like to extend a sincere thank you to all of her friends and caregivers at St. John’s Lutheran Community.
