50 years ago: 1964

• The Wells High School basketball team raised its season record to 10-3 with a 72-41 win over Truman. Tom Schultz led the Wildcats with 25 points.

• The Alden High School basketball team moved into a tie for first place with Delavan in the Border League after defeating Delavan 63-55. Arlen Steele scored 17 points for Alden.

• Champions in the Albert Lea women’s bowling association city tournament were Marlys Webber in singles and Janice Schumacher and Shirley Felt in doubles.

• The New Richland wrestling team defeated Waseca Central 27-13. Winners for New Richland were Chuck Michelson at 112 pounds, Curt Dodge at 120, Jim O’Hara at 133, David Routh at 154, Doug Dorn at 165, Bernard Nolan at 175 and Dan Boettger at heavyweight.

25 years ago: 1989

• Results in the 42nd annual Albert Lea men’s City Bowling Tournament were the following: Singles (handicap) Curt Breamer; Singles (scratch) Ed Bellrichard; Doubles (handicap) Harold Kinney and Ed King; Doubles (scratch) Ed Bellrichard and Steve Goskeson; All Events (handicap) Dale Boverhuis; All Events (scratch) Kent Hauge.

• The Glenville-Emmons girls’ basketball team defeated Waterville-Elysian 61-40. Darcy Haroldson led Glenville-Emmons with 13 points and Jeanie Nelson had 10.

• Matt Potter led the Alden-Conger-Freeborn boys’ basketball team to a 43-35 win over Lyle with 24 points and 14 rebounds.

• In a girls’ Gopher Conference basketball game, New Richland-Ellendale defeated Medford 46-42. Angie Worrell scored 11 points for New Richland-Ellendale.

10 years ago: 2004

• The Albert Lea High School boys’ basketball team improved its season record to 9-4 and its Big Nine Conference mark to 5-3 with a 72-58 victory over Rochester Mayo. The Tigers were led by Ben Woodside with 36 points.

• The NRHEG girls’ basketball team defeated Bethlehem Academy 57-46 for its 16th win of the year against only one loss. Alison Anderson scored 18 points, Erin Anderson 16 and Traci Nelson 11 for NRHEG.
