ELK RIVER  — An overflow crowd filled two rooms at Elk River City Hall where some had waited outside in the cold for an hour to have their say about a senior who was suspended over a tweet about a teacher.

Parents, teachers and administrators addressed the suspension of 17-year-old Reid Sagehorn, who has since transferred to another school. Some voiced concern about the teacher after Sagehorn’s tweet implied an inappropriate relationship. The teacher was questioned by police, but cleared of any impropriety.

Others told board members a seven-week suspension over a two-word tweet that was meant to be sarcastic was excessive.  The Star Tribune (http://strib.mn/1eeId0n ) reports the school board declined to take up the matter at Monday night’s meeting. But, many in the crowd voiced their opinions during the public comment session.
