INDEPENDENCE — Authorities say one person is dead after a vehicle was hit by a train in Independence.

The crash happened at about 1:15 a.m. Saturday off Highway 12 at northbound County Road 92.

The West Hennepin Public Safety Department says the driver of the vehicle had gone around the flashing gates at the crossing and was struck by the train.

The driver was the only person in the vehicle.
