HAYWARD – Nick’s Meats & Grocery has been a local staple for more than 14 years, and for good reason.

Nick’s just won seven awards this past weekend, including Best in Show for their summer sausage. Other awards from this weekend include first place in dried beef, second in cheese snack sticks and pepper cheese summer sausage, third in ring bologna and fourth in fajita chicken brats and regular snack sticks.

Todd Enderson and his wife, Cheryl, own Nick’s Meats, 103 W. Front St. in Hayward. Cheryl originally worked in the meat market before Todd decided to change careers and join her. They bought the business and made it their own.

Nick’s has more than 35 different flavors of brats, along with summer sausages, jerky and snack sticks, among other products.

“It’s something different every day. … You get to wear a lot of different hats here,” Todd said.

He said the grocer’s busiest season tends to run from the start of deer season in November through the holidays, but that Nick’s has a pretty loyal customer base year-round.

“Repeat customers are at the core of our business.”

Nick’s customers should keep an eye out for some potential new products this spring.

“Spring time is grilling time. We’ll have some new flavors coming,” Todd said.

Nick’s Meats & Grocery is open from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays.
