Albert Lea boys finish 2nd and 3rd on road

The Albert Lea boys’ track and field team followed Tuesday’s second-place finish at Mankato West by taking third place Thursday at Kasson-Mantorville.

Mankato West won its home meet with 91 points. Albert Lea was second with 80, and Rochester Century was last with 15, according to Albert Lea assistant coach Jerry Kaphers.

Albert Lea had nine first-place finishes and swept the distance and middle-distance races.

Will Kozelsky won the 400-meter dash in 57.05 seconds, Brandon Bonnerup won the 800 in 2 minutes, 12.63 seconds, Caleb Troe won the 1,600 in 4:52.30 and Jackson Goodell won the 3,200 in 10:42.42.

Albert Lea’s Preston Smith earned first-place finishes in the 300 hurdles and triple jump, and Sam Thompson won the long jump.

The Tigers also won the 4×800 and 4×400 relays.

Stewartville won the meet Thursday at Kasson-Mantorville with 83.5 points. The KoMets came in second with 70 points. Albert Lea scored 60.5 points to take third place and edge Byron by 2.5 points.

Goodell continued a strong start to the season by winning the 1,600 in 2:10.83 and the and 800 in 4:51.02.

Next, Albert Lea will compete at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday at Winona against the Winhawks, Austin and Rochester Mayo.
