First Lutheran Church Women

First Lutheran Church Women met at 1:15 p.m. April 9 in Bethany Hall. Prelude music was provided by Joan Holt.

Sandy Narverud welcomed everyone and led the reciting of the purpose statement.

Donna Ludtke gave devotions from the book “Hugs for Women.” A woman is not just a person, but a miracle with many gifts and abilities, including being a spiritual guide in the home.

Hymn No. 114 “Green Hill Far Away” was sung by everyone.

Bonnie Trampel introduced Darryl Meyer, retired former director of the Freeborn County Department of Human Services, who presented the program “Trip to India.” He showed pictures and spoke about his most recent trip in 2011, organized by the staff of Bible for the World. This organization has been active for more than 50 years, establishing a hospital and numerous schools and churches in northeast India.

Circle roll call was conducted by Selma Engebretson and assisted by Marge LaFrance. First place winner was Circle No. 4 with Circle No. 29 coming in second.

Sandy Narverud conducted the business meeting. The secretary’s report was approved as printed with a motion by Bonnie Schneider and seconded by Trampel.

Lois Jensen thanked Marge Moine for serving as correspondence secretary in her absence. Thank yous have been received from Norma Ingvaldson’s family for serving at her funeral, Good Earth Village, FLC radio fund and LWR. Newsletters from the Satres, who are Wycliffe Bible translators in Cameroon, and from the synod River Crossings will be placed in the library. Central Freeborn Lutheran Church has extended an invitation to join it on a bus trip to see “The Church Basement Ladies in: The Last (Potluck) Supper” at 2 p.m. June 22 at Plymouth Playhouse.

Marcia Habben reminded members of the Annual Tea which will be at 1:15 p.m. May 14 on the regular meeting day. Everyone is encouraged to bring a teacup. Tickets for the event will be $3 and will be available in the church office and also sold between services on Sundays in May. Deadline for purchasing tickets is May 11.

Four ladies attended the spring conference in Walters April 5. Jan Jerdee presented the program on “Hands, which are God’s tools.”

Three of the First Lutheran Church Women members are planning to attend the Triennial Convention from July 24 to 27 in Charlotte, N.C. Bev Cotter is the delegate from the area.

Hymn No. 327 “Rock of Ages” was sung during the offering. Joan Holt gave the offering mediation on Isaiah 61:10. “He has clothed me with garments of salvation and dressed me in a robe of righteousness.”

Sandy thanked the following: ushers Hazel Senske and Janice Lestrud; greeters Lorrain Fjelstad, Arlis Smith and Helen Westrum; hostesses Chairperson Gen Montei and her committee. Deloris Goskeson, Norris Lovik, Neva Mathison, Carol Olson and Dawn Rozinka.

Co-chairwomen Lavonne Oftedahl and Bev Sutton and their committee served four funerals in March.

Members were asked to note all the services for Holy Week and Easter Sunday.

The meeting closed with the Lord’s Prayer and singing the table prayer.
