A third man filed his bid for the office of Freeborn County sheriff on Friday, triggering the need for a primary election in August to narrow down the field to two candidates.

Dale Glazier, 50, has worked for the Sheriff’s Office since 2003. He said he looks forward to campaigning for the seat.

“It’s been very positive and very much encouraging,” Glazier said of the people he has already met.

Glazier announced his intent to run for the seat in the middle of May.

He will face off against fellow deputy Kurt Freitag and current Sheriff Bob Kindler, who filed for office last week.

Glazier said in a previous interview that he campaigned for Kindler four years ago but now has a different opinion.

He claimed many of the promises Kindler made when he was elected have not come to fruition and said he thinks there is decreased morale in the department and diminished relationships with other agencies.

Glazier hopes to increase morale, communications and investigations in the department.
