The United South Central/Alden-Conger boys’ and girls’ track and field teams each took fifth place Friday at the Sentinel Relays at Fairmont, according to a press release.

Beth Stevermer and Linsey Thisius led the Rebel girls.

Stevermer cut about 20 seconds from her 3,200-meter run time. She finished in 11 minutes, 55.65 seconds to win the event. Thisius set a personal best in the pole vault by clearing 8 feet, 11 inches to take first place. Lauren Allis added third-place finishes in the shot put and high jump, and the 4×100 relay team of Thisius, Anissa Janzig, Nancy Christianson and Kendall Ward also took bronze.

John Schuster led the boys’ team.

He won the 400-meter dash with his best time of the year, 50.62 seconds, despite a strong headwind on the home stretch. Schuster added a silver medal in the 100 with a time of 11.66 seconds and a bronze in the triple jump. Dakota Kalis took third place in the 110 hurdles, and Issac Hernandez was third in the shot put.

“We are as close to being as healthy as we have been all season,” said Rebels coach Kent Viesselman. “As we head into the true team and conference part of the season, the best thing that could happen for us is a little sunshine and some 80-degree days. That does more for sore legs and morale than anything.”
