2 injured when minivan strikes deer

Two Dodge Center residents were injured Saturday night when a minivan struck a deer on Interstate 90 a mile west of the Bridge Avenue interchange.

Verline E. Chelsey, 65, was eastbound when the 2013 Dodge Caravan he was driving struck a deer at milepost 156. He was uninjured, but his wife, Darlene C. Chelsey, 56, a passenger, sustained an injury that wasn’t life-threatening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol. She was transported to Mayo Clinic Health System in Albert Lea.

Also injured was passenger Dylan E. Walterman, 18. The State Patrol lists his injury as not life-threatening. No hospital destinated was listed in the State Patrol report for Walterman, which means he may or may not have gone to one.

All three were wearing seat belts. The call for aid came to dispatchers at 9:08 p.m. The Caravan was listed as having severe damage and was towed to Allen’s Tow-N-Travel in Albert Lea.

The State Patrol lists Gold Cross Ambulance as assisting at the crash site.

 

3 injured west of Blue Earth

Three people were injured on Interstate 90 west of of Blue Earth on Sunday morning when one automobile rear-ended another in a construction zone where westbound traffic was down to a single lane.

The crash happened at 2:52 a.m. about three miles west of I-90’s interchange with U.S. Highway 169, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

The State Patrol report says a 1996 Honda Civic driven by Meo Thotsakan, 45, of Worthington, rear-ended a 2008 Volkswagen Golf, driven by Shelly M. Kaboni, 37, of Wikwemikong, Ontario, Canada.

The collision caused non-life-threatening injuries to Thosakan and his two passengers, Sarin Meas, 32, whose residence was unavailable, and Thi May L. Saengkeo, 54, of Mountain Lake. Thosakan and Meas were listed as wearing seat belts, while Saengkeo was not. An airbag deployed for Thosakan.

In the Golf, only passenger Jillian E. Kaboni, 14, of Wikwemikong, sustained an injury, which the State Patrol listed as not life-threatening.

The three injured people were transported to the United Hospital District in Blue Earth.

Uninjured in the Golf were the driver and Wikwemikong residents Anna L. Kaboni, 39, and Jacy T. Kaboni, 11. The State Patrol listed members of the Kaboni family as wearing their seat belts.

The Civic sustained moderate damage, the State Patrol stated, and it was hauled to the Blue Earth Truck Stop, while the Golf had minor damage and was not towed.

The Faribault County Sheriff’s Office assisted the State Patrol.
