The public is invited to attend an open house from 1 to 3 p.m. Sunday at the Albert Lea Art Center for the opening of the “Envision the Impressionist” exhibit.

The term “impressionism” was first coined by a critic of Claude Monet’s painting, “Impression, Sunrise,” calling it an “unfinished sketch.” But Monet’s stylistic approach of depicting images without sharp detail and using short brush strokes with intense color vibration led to a whole artistic movement, drawing in other accomplished artists such as Renoir, Cézanne and Degas.

“Envision the Impressionist” runs through Sept. 27 during regular Art Center hours, which are 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
