DULUTH — Duluth police have arrested a man in the suffocation death of his 14-month-old daughter.

Twenty-nine-year-old Christopher Peterson was charged Wednesday with unintentional second-degree murder.

Police said the girl was dead when they arrived at the scene on July 6. Peterson had called 911 about the infant not breathing. Police said the girl’s mother was there at the time of the call.

Peterson told police he covered the infant’s mouth with his hand and pinched her nose to make her stop crying. He said he’d done it several times before the fatal incident.

The St. Louis County Medical Examiner’s Office said the manner of death was homicide by suffocation.

Police said Peterson is the only suspect in the case. It wasn’t immediately clear if he has a lawyer.
