Funeral services for Larry A. Miller, 60, will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Chapel. The Rev. Clayton Balsley will officiate. Interment will be in Hillcrest Cemetery. Larry went to be with the Lord on Sunday, Sept. 21, 2014, after a courageous fight with ALS (Lou Gehrig’s disease).

Larry Allen Miller was born on July 14, 1954, to Herman and Virginia (Lund) Miller in Albert Lea. He attended elementary school in Emmons and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1973. Larry joined the United States Army after high school and was later given an honorable discharge. Larry worked for Cedar Valley Services at the Good Samaritan Center for 11 years. He enjoyed helping all the residents and spending time with his co-workers. He was recognized several times as Employee of the Month.

Larry is survived by his mother, Virginia (Lund) Miller, of Albert Lea; sisters Gloria (Dale) Schroeder of Glenville, Elaine (Harry) Bergwall of Atlanta and Colleen (Kevin) Bates of Wichita Falls, Texas; nieces Stacia (Chris) Hansard of Wichita Falls, Kelly Schroeder of Albert Lea, Bonnie Schroeder of Wichita Falls and Kari (Zach) Davis of Wichita Falls; nephews Brian (Shelia) Bergwall of Atlanta, Cory (Renee) Bates of Arlington, Texas, and Cody (Isabelle) Bates of Wichita Falls; great-nieces and great-nephews Campbell, Gavin and Cooper Hansard, Elijah, Jocelyn and Jenna Bates, and Kaylee and Taylor Davis; and special friend, Dawn Schultz, of Albert Lea.

Larry was preceded in death by his father, Herman Miller; and his nephew, Jason Bergwall.

Larry enjoyed painting by number, reading, watching anything historical in nature, listening to his extensive CD collection, watching movies and taking drives to explore the countryside with Dawn. Larry loved the outdoors and could be found mowing lawns or shoveling snow for the neighbor ladies. He loved to paint houses and would surprise family members with a freshly painted house while they were away on vacation. He enjoyed playing with his nieces, nephews and other family members when they were all together.

Larry will always be remembered for his generosity to others, not just monetarily but with his time as well. He loved to write letters and send cards to family members. Larry possessed an impressive memory for dates, numbers and times and was always able to recall them whenever asked, and rarely forgot a birthday or anniversary. His quick wit and sense of humor will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege to know him and spend time with him.

Memorials can be sent to the ALS Association, Muscular Dystrophy Association, Paralyzed Veterans of America or First Baptist Church of Albert Lea.
