Bill Dewey, known as “The Voice of Johnny Cash,” will play a show in Albert Lea on Saturday.

The Man in Black show will be at 7:30 p.m. at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Dennis Charnecki, of Denny and the DC Drifters, who is promoting the show this weekend, said that wherever Dewey goes, he sells out, and encouraged people who like Johnny Cash’s music to hear Dewey.

Dewey was born in Clear Lake, Iowa, but moved to Nashville to pursue a musical career. When he was in Nashville he received his nickname as “The Voice of Johnny Cash.”

Dewey plays guitar and sings and has performed five times at the Surf Ballroom in Clear Lake, Charnecki said. Out of all of the acts that have played at the Surf Ballroom, and as far as Dewey knows, he holds the record for most encores.

Dewey was asked to re-record one of Johnny Cash’s albums, “At Folsom Prison,” in 2008, Charnecki said.

The album was originally recorded in 1968, and for it’s 40-year anniversary, John Holliff, Cash producer Saul Holliff’s son, decided to ask Dewey to be the voice of Johnny Cash once more, Charnecki said.

Tickets to the show are $15 and can be bought at the door, online at http://www.actonbroadway.com or at the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau.
