MINNEAPOLIS — The mayor of Minneapolis is making her first public comments about a photo that a police union leader says shows her flashing a gang sign.

Betsy Hodges wrote on her blog Thursday night that public reaction on the Internet to the claim shines “the light of day on the ridiculous premise” on which it was made.

The Nov. 1 photo shows Hodges and a community activist pointing a finger at each other with their thumbs raised. KSTP-TV later aired a story in which union chief John Delmonico said the mayor has to decide whether she supports gangs or police.

“I’m not going to stop pointing” the mayor said about the incident which was circulated on social media under the hashtag #Pointergate. Hodges said she’s undaunted in her efforts to strengthen police-community relations.
