The Freeborn County Board of Commissioners on Tuesday accepted the resignations of Freeborn County Jail Administrator Steve Westland and Sheriff Bob Kindler, effective Dec. 31.

Kindler had worked in the Sheriff’s Office since 1987 and has served as a patrol deputy and detective before he was elected as sheriff in 2010. Deputy Kurt Freitag defeated him in the Nov. 4 election.

Freitag takes over Jan. 1.

Westland started in 1992 as a jailer and was promoted to jail administrator in 1997.
