ST. PAUL — A St. Paul teenager who was allegedly driving erratically in a stolen car as he was chased by police has died after a crash.

St. Paul police said 15-year-old John McAfee died at Regions Hospital on Wednesday.

Police said they came across a stolen car in the area of Fourth and Robert Street early Wednesday.

McAffee was the only person in the car. The officers tried to stop him and used lights and sirens but he drove away, passing other cars and going into opposite lanes of traffic.

Police lost sight of the car. An officer crossed the Robert Street overpass and saw McAffee had crashed. He was transported to the hospital and later died.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave, as required by department policy.
