ST. PAUL — Metro Transit officials said a St. Paul police officer caused a collision between his squad car and a Green Line light-rail train when he ran a red light.

A Metro Transit report said Tuesday that the officer drove too quickly to give the train conductor time to react, causing the Nov. 3 crash.

Police said Officer Pil Jeon was responding to a call of a stolen car with his lights and siren on but he didn’t stop at the intersection. He was taken to a hospital with neck and back pain. No one on the train was injured. Train service was disrupted briefly.

Metro Transit said officials won’t cite Jeon or pursue charges against him. St. Paul police said an accident-review board will decide whether to recommend disciplining him.
