Mildred Schultz, 1921-2015

Mildred D. (Lambertus) Schultz, 93, of Tama, Iowa, passed away Monday, Jan. 19, 2015, at Grinnell Regional Medical Center under the care of Grinnell Hospice. Private graveside services will be at Oak Hill Cemetery in Tama.

Mildred was born Feb. 19, 1921, in Dexter Township, the second child of John Frederick and  Dorothy A. (Tischer) Lambertus. At age 10 she moved with her parents and two brothers to Hollandale. Mildred attended Hollandale schools through eighth grade and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1938. In March of 1941, she moved to Tama to visit a classmate and continued to make Tama her home.

On Aug. 22, 1946, she married Orien H. Schultz in Keister. They had two sons, Jeffrie J. and Gregory L. Mildred worked for Irish Poultry Co. — candling eggs in the spring of 1941 — and then at Central Fibre Products Paper Mill in the fall of 1941, working there for 17 years. From May 1979 until November of 1988 she worked at F.S. Feeds Inc. in Toledo.

Mildred was a charter member of Tama-Toledo Eagles Auxiliary No. 2828, and a past president of the local Auxiliary and the Iowa State Eagles Auxiliary. She was inducted into the National Eagles Auxiliary Hall of Fame in 1994 in Spokane, Washington, and served as west central regional president FOE from 1997 to 1998 and grand auxiliary mother from 2002 to 2003. She had served as local secretary for many years, retiring from office just recently.

Survivors include two sons, Jeffrie (Connie) Schultz of Tama and Greg (Natalie) Schultz of Victor; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Orien, on Jan. 16, 1984; and two brothers, Kenneth and Floyd.

A memorial fund has been established.
