Speaker to address living, working with diversity

A nationally known speaker who traveled to Albert Lea last summer to speak about poverty will be back in town on Tuesday to present a workshop about diversity.

Jodi Pfarr will present a session titled “Effectively Living and Working in a Diverse World” from 3 to 8:30 p.m. in the Riverland Community College lecture hall, 2200 Riverland Drive.

The workshop explores how to work effectively with diverse populations — whether that diversity is because of economics, race or gender — and how to help participants better manage, supervise or volunteer in the community.

The event is part of an effort sponsored in part by the Grand Rapids-based Blandin Foundation called “Lift One, Lift All: Freeborn County Beyond Poverty.”

Dinner and childcare will be provided free of charge.

Pfarr last summer presented about what causes poverty and how social class can affect viewpoints.

To register for the event, contact Albert Lea Community Education at 379-4834 or visit www2.albertleak12.mn.us/community-education.

In addition to the Tuesday workshop, there will be a community discussion from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Feb. 23 about how poverty impacts the community, how it can be addressed and how Freeborn County would be without it.

A light supper will be served for this event from 5 to 5:30 p.m.
