MINNEAPOLIS — A St. Paul man is charged with three misdemeanor traffic violations for driving through a crowd of protesters in Minneapolis in November, slightly injuring one demonstrator.

Forty-year-old Jeffrey Rice was charged in Hennepin County with reckless or careless driving, careless driving and failure to avoid colliding with a pedestrian. Reports say Rice was charged by summons and has an April 14 court date.

Last month, the Hennepin County Attorney’s office declined to charge Rice with a felony.

Rice is accused of driving into a crowd protesting the grand jury decision not to indict a white police officer in the fatal shooting of an unarmed black 18-year-old in Ferguson, Missouri. A 16-year-old girl was slightly injured.

Rice’s attorney, Kevin Sieben, declined comment Tuesday.
