Weekend Planner: Lutefisk and meatball dinner slated in Northwood

Northwood Special Events will be serving its 12th annual lutefisk and meatball dinner at 4:30 and 6 p.m. on Saturday at the Northwood United Methodist Church, 1000 First Ave. N., Northwood.

In case of inclement weather, the dinner will be on Sunday.

The menu will include lutefisk, meatballs, mashed potatoes, gravy, corn, cole slaw, rolls, lefse, cranberry relish, beverages, rommegrot and Norwegian pastries.

There will be two settings: one at 4:30 p.m. and one at 6 p.m. Tickets are $16 each and can be purchased by sending a check and stamped, self-addressed envelope to Verla Perry, 106 Shellrock Drive, Northwood, Iowa, 50459.

Tickets will also be available at Northwood True Value, Northwood State Bank, Farmers State Bank and Corner Post in Northwood. Call Verla Perry at 641-324-2252 for more information.

Storyteller JoAnn Lower will entertain in the sanctuary 30 minutes before each serving. Come early and enjoy.

All tickets must be purchased in advance. No tickets will be sold at the door. There are a limited number of tickets available.

 

Friday

• The Home Based Business Show will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. Shop at a variety of vendors selling things from decorating to home goods and more.

• The 34th annual KATE Radio Home and Recreation Show will be from 4 to 8 p.m. at Skyline Plaza.

 

Saturday

• The 11th annual Parks and Recreation Department co-ed volleyball tournament will begin at 8:30 a.m. at Albert Lea High School. Teams could sign up for $85 by March 2.

• The 34th annual KATE Radio Home and Recreation Show will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Skyline Plaza.

• The Home Based Business Show will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. Shop a variety of vendors selling things from decorating to home goods and more.

• Defensive driving classes will be from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Museum. Registration is required. Cost is $20 for AARP members or $25 for nonmembers.

• A benefit for Derek Huston, who has cancer, will be from 4 to 7:30 p.m. A spaghetti supper will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m., a silent auction from 4 to 6 p.m. and a live auction at 6:30 p.m. There will be door prizes, a photo booth and T-shirts for sale. Donations will be accepted.

• Turpentine Wine will play at 7:30 p.m. at the Lighthouse Event Center. Tickets are $15 in advance and $20 at the door. Tickets can be bought at Marshall Street Music, Hy-Vee, Stadheim Jewelers and the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau.

 

Sunday

• A special Eagles breakfast will be served from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Eagles Club. French toast will be served in addition to the regular menu.

• Enjoy Sunday breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the Albert Lea American Legion Club. Pancakes, sausages, potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without ham, fruit cups, juice, milk and coffee will be served. Cost is $7.

• The 34th annual KATE Radio Home and Recreation Show will be from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Skyline Plaza.

• The Home Based Business Show will be from noon to 5 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. Shop a variety of vendors selling things from decorating to home goods and more.

• The Elementary and Secondary Student Art Show open house will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at Northbridge Mall.

• A Lenten recital will begin at 3 p.m. at Salem Lutheran Church. There will be organ, instrumental and vocal Lenten music performed.
