Weekend Planner: Fundraising runs return to Albert Lea

The Fountain Lake 5 and Tiger Trot 5k are coming around again this weekend.

The runs will both begin on Saturday at Brookside School. Registration for the Fountain Lake 5 begins at 8 a.m. and registration for the Tiger Trot 5k will be from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. Both races will begin at 9 a.m.

The Fountain Lake 5 is a five mile run/walk around Fountain Lake. The entry fee on race day will be $32 for Albert Lea Family Y members and $37 for nonmembers.

Childcare is provided during the run/walk. There will also be fun runs at 10 a.m. for children. Children ages 1 to 4 will do short dashes and children 5 and up will do a half-mile run. These races are free.

Entry in the Fountain Lake 5 includes a dry-fit long sleeve T-shirt and post-race refreshments. The Fountain Lake 5 benefits YMCA programs such as after school care, summer camp and swimming lessons.

The Tiger Trot is a 5k fun run/walk that runs in conjunction with the Fountain Lake 5. The entry fee on race day will be $30 for adults and $20 for children in seventh grade or younger. Those who pre-registered are guaranteed a T-shirt. The Tiger Trot 5k benefits the Southwest Middle School student activity fund.

Awards will be given for the top males and females runner in both races, plus first through third place prizes for male and female in each age group.

 

Friday

• Experience “Love Potion #10: The Musical!” at 7 p.m. at Southwest Middle School’s Little Theatre. Tickets are $20 in advance and $25 at the door. Tickets are on sale at the Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau.

 

Saturday

• The annual village cleanup will be from 8 a.m. to noon at the Freeborn County Historical Museum. RSVP by calling 507-373-8003.

• Five Steps to Fulfilling Your Destiny will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. in room E-213 at Albert Lea High School. Kate Sholonski and David Larson will present a workshop on living to the fullest. Cost is $139. Register by calling 507-373-4834 or by going to albertleacommunityed.org.

• Community sew day will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Fairlane Building on the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. Bring a sewing machine, scissors, pins and a sack lunch. Water, coffee and cookies will be provided. Call 507-383-8977 with questions.

• The Fountain Lake 5 and Tiger Trot 5k will be from 9 a.m. to noon at Brookside Education Center.

• The Family Fun Festival will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. Admission is free. Information on activities and programs for young children in Freeborn County will be available. Activities, crafts are planned and prizes can be won.

• Central Freeborn Lutheran Church will have its annual spring luncheon at 11 a.m. for women, children and guests. The theme is “Stepping Out for Jesus.” Call 507-826-3184, 507-826-3229 or 507-377-6191 for details.

• Paint on Canvas with Debb will be from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Color Wheel. Cost is $30.

• Timeless Tea will be from 2 to 3 p.m. at the Freeborn County Historical Society. Pre-sale tickets are $7.50 and are available at the musuem.

• Enjoy swing dancing from 7 to 11 p.m. at the Interchange Wine & Coffee Bistro.

• The Dutton Family will perform at 7 p.m. at the Alden-Conger School gym in Alden. Call 507-383-9956 for tickets.

 

Sunday

• The Alano Society of Albert Lea will serve breakfast from 8 a.m. to noon at the Alano Society. Pancakes, French toast, eggs, hashbrowns, sausage, toast, orange juice and coffee will be served. Cost is $6.

• The Albert Lea Noon Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast will be from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. at First Lutheran Church. Cost is $7 and children 5 and under are free. Denny Brue’s pancakes, eggs, sausages and beverages will be served.

• Enjoy breakfast at the Masonic Lodge from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Amaranth pancakes, eggs, sausages, juice, milk and coffee will be served for $7 per person.

• Round Prairie Lutheran Church will have a spring tea at 2 p.m. Members, guests and friends are invited to attend. A speaker will present about weddings and how styles have changed. Cost is $5.

• The 28th annual Aebleskiver Supper will be from 4 to 6:30 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church. Tickets are $7 for adults and children age 12 and under are $3.
