50 years ago: 1965

• Results in the amateur baseball State Line League included Hayward defeating Glenville 9-3 and Emmons over Glenville 14-0. Junior Torres picked up the win for Hayward, and Ed Stalker and Neal Skaar each drove in two runs. Bill Cunningham had five hits for Emmons, and winning pitcher Al Rasmussen threw a no-hitter.

• In Church League softball, Conger defeated St. Theodores 10-1. Winning pitcher Lowell Dopplehammer hurled a no-hitter, and Gary Johnson led the offense with three hits.

• Home runs by Bob Winjum, Jack Lehman and Ray Sorenson led the Elbow Room to an 18-7 victory over Scotsman in a slowpitch softball game. Scotsman was led by Ron Godtland and Doug Cipra with home runs.

25 years ago: 1990

• Albert Lea High School junior Dave Mendenhall placed second out of 53 participants at the USA Wrestling Cadet National Junior Olympic Championships at Battle Creek, Michigan.

• Lori Williamschen, Paige Stumme, Kari Larson and Sarah Lindeman captured first place in the 4×100-meter relay at the State Hershey Minnesota Recreation Association state meet at Pipestone. Williamschen placed third in the 200-meter dash in the 13- to 14-year-old division.

• The Glenville-Emmons American Legion baseball team defeated Lyle 13-6. Shannon Frondet and Jeff Yost homered for Glenville-Emmons.

10 years ago: 2005

• Named as the Albert Lea Tribune All-Area baseball Co-Players of the Year were Alex Hansen of Glenville-Emmons and Adam Schrader of United South Central. Named the All-Area baseball Coach of the Year was Louie Toulouse of Glenville-Emmons. The following baseball players were named to the All-Area baseball team: from Albert Lea were Jared Butler, Brandon Klukow and Nick Hagen; from Alden-Conger was Matt Bremseth; from Glenville-Emmons were Alex Hansen, Devin Kaasa, Nathan Cooper, Dustin Rayman, Wade Flattum and Michael Greibrok; from NRHEG were Josh Churchill, Taylor Greenwood, B.J. Peterson, Joe McGuire and Nick Christensen; from United South Central were Adam Schrader, Brandon Haugh, Shea Kaiser, Tyler Stenzel, Kenny Sandt and Ben Linder.
