Community Compass by Chris Chalmers

Another school year is right around the corner and a new programming year for Community Education is about to begin for learners of all ages.  The new Community Education book is delivered to all District 241 citizens in the mail four times a year. The enhanced Fall 2015 Community Education book covers programming from September through December and includes something for everyone. All offerings can also be found at albertleacommunityed.org.

Sharing a hobby, trying something new, registering as a group or registering on your own to meet others with common interests is proven to add vital years to one’s life. Building community is at the core of the lifelong learning experiences offered through Community Education and the many community partners who also list programming with us.

Community Ed trips have been extremely popular and the 11 trips offered this session are sure to fill up quickly — from Junk Bonanza, yarn and gardens, to spirited tours and holiday charm, and onto the Ordway and “The Sound of Music.” Door-to-door service on comfortable coach buses.  Leave the driving to us.

Fitness, investing, art, cooking and for the first time, harp classes with Rachel Christensen are being offered.  These are just a few of the opportunities to explore.

There is still time to register for preschool at Brookside with a variety of options of days and times and nights and weekends. Scholarships are available for many of these preschool experiences.

Also at Brookside is the Adult Learning Center. This is a resource for GED prep, learning English and brushing up on reading, math and writing skills as needed. The Adult Learning Center is also partnering with Riverland to offer math classes at Riverland.

Community partners this issue are the library, Park and Rec, the museum, Mayo, CVCC, Circle of Parents, STARS, the Albert Lea Figure Skating Club and the Y. Check out their offerings.

Whether you have an interest in history, music, wellness or beyond, make some time to have fun, learn and grow. If you want to share a skill, talent or passion in the future please contact us. If you are interested in learning more about something else please let us know. Community Education tries to connect the wants and needs in our community with the resources of our community. Set your compass. See you on the path of lifelong learning.
