Dick and Elaine Rooney of Bella Vista, Arkansas, formerly of Albert Lea, announce the engagement of their son, Ryan Rooney, to Chelsea Sawyers, daughter of Steven and Angela Sawyers of Marion, Iowa.

The groom is the grandson of the late Helmer and Marie Brackey of Albert Lea and the late Edmund and Margaret Rooney of Madelia. He is a graduate of Albert Lea High School and Gustavus Adolphus College and is employed as a process analyst at Sun Trust.

The bride is a graduate of Linn Mar High School and Iowa State University. She is currently a doctoral student in human genetics at Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, Virginia.

An Oct. 17, 2015, wedding is planned in Richmond.
