Tigers lost to Faribault 25 years ago

50 years ago: 1965

• In its season opener, the Albert Lea football team defeated Red Wing 14-0. Scoring touchdowns for the Tigers were Chuck Slette and Kurt Ross. Doyle Freemyer rushed for 83 yards on 18 carries for Albert Lea.

• The Minnesota Vikings lost a preseason game 35-16 to the Baltimore Colts. Fred Cox kicked three field goals for the Vikings.

 

25 years ago: 1990

• The Albert Lea football team lost 15-8 to Faribault. The Tigers scored on a 31-yard pass from Lynn Kermes to Derek Fleek.

• The Albert Lea girls’ swimming team defeated Waseca 100-76. First-place finishes for Albert Lea were Leah Mattson in the 200-yard freestyle, Laura Olson in diving and Alison Thorn in the 100 backstroke.

• The Wells-Easton girls’ tennis team defeated New Ulm 4-1 and raised its season record to 5-2. Singles winners for the Wildcats were Angie Nowak, Dayna Groskreutz and Molly Sorenson and the doubles team of Pepper Hagen and Angie Johnson.

• The Glenville-Emmons volleyball team defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 3-1. Game scores were 15-9, 15-3, 12-15 and 15-2. Serving for the Wolverines were Colleen Kral, 18-of-19, Kelly Peterson, 17-of-18, and Dacia Haroldson, 15-of-17.

 

10 years ago: 2005

• Amanda Arends, Whitney Wilson and Brittni Lair scored goals for the Albert Lea girls’ soccer team in its 3-2 win over Austin.

• The United South Central volleyball team shut out Austin 3-0. Game scores were 25-20, 26-24 and 25-19. Kirsten Thisius and Erin Yokiel each had three kills, and Coryn Stevermer had 11 assists for USC.

• The Glenville-Emmons volleyball team defeated Alden-Conger 3-1 with game scores of 25-13, 17-25, 25-21 and 25-18. Kirsten Faugstad had 13 kills for Alden-Conger.

• In its first of two games, the Albert Lea boys’ soccer team defeated Mankato East 3-2. Jaird Campus scored two goals and Michael Christenson, one. The Tigers won the second game 3-0 over Southwest Minnesota Christian. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Christenson, Josh Svendson and Flipe Ambriz.
