Albert Lea Area School District students and faculty are excited to have today and Friday off for the Thanksgiving break.

“It will be really nice to not have a bunch of homework to do, and relax,” said freshman Anna Grossman.

She said she was looking forward to spending time with her family, including her brothers who are coming home.

Senior Mitzibelle Soto shared similar thoughts.

“Holidays are a big thing for our family because we live everywhere,” Soto said.

She said she has relatives in the Twin Cities and Texas.

“It will be a nice break to let my senioritis kick in,” Soto joked.

Superintendent Mike Funk said he is looking forward to the break.

“I’m looking forward to it, not only for myself but for all of the employees in the district,” Funk said. “The Thanksgiving holiday is a good time to focus on what’s important in our lives, our families.”

Funk said he plans on heading up to his in-laws.

He said the break is also important for students.

“It gives them time to spend time with their families and get away from school and just be kids,” he said.

Junior Trent Johnston said he will spend the break eating food, spending quality time with his family and girlfriend and working.

Other breaks students in the Albert Lea School District will have are the following:

Christmas break, Dec. 23 to Jan. 3

Presidents Day, Feb. 15

Spring break, March 21 to 27

Staff development, April 4

Memorial Day, May 30

Last day of school,  June 2
