Weekend Planner: Auction in Freeborn to raise money to fight cancer

The Freeborn Area Cancer Auction will take place this weekend at TB3’s Bar & Grill in Freeborn.

With proceeds to support the 5th District Eagles Cancer Telethon, the auction kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday and goes until close that night, before starting up again at 1 p.m. Saturday. All items auctioned off are donated.

Entertainment will be provided from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m. both Friday and Saturday.

A raffle drawing will be at 6 p.m. Saturday. First place gets $2,500; second place. $1,000; third place, $500; fourth, $300; fifth, $200; and sixth, $100.

The event is organized by numerous volunteers. TB3’s is at 408 Park St. in Freeborn.

Here is a roundup of other events happening this weekend:

 

Friday

• The Freeborn County Arts Initiative’s all-member show will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 224 S. Broadway.

• The Albert Lea Art Center, 226 W. Clark St., will have “Christmas on Clark Street” from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Member artists will show their artwork that may be sold as gifts during this year’s holiday season.

 

Saturday

• The Albert Lea Farmers Market will be inside Northbridge Mall from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Vendors will have baked goods, jellies, jams and different Christmas ideas.

Walters volunteer firefighters will have have their annual oyster stew and chili feed from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Walters Fire Hall. Menu includes oyster stew, chili, cheese, bread, homemade bars and beverages. Cost is $8 for adults and $5 for children ages 10 and under.

The Albert Lea Art Center’s Evening of Dazzle will be at 5:30 p.m. at Northbridge Mall. Event includes hors d’oeuvres, wine tasting, music, door prizes and a lighting of the trees for the Winter Wonderland Festival of Trees. Tickets are $20 and are available at Hy-Vee, Marketplace Foods, Addie’s Floral & Gifts, the Albert Lea Convention and Visitors Bureau, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce and the Art Center. The event is a fundraiser for the Art Center.

 

Sunday

American Legion Post 56 will host an American Legion Auxiliary breakfast from 8 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Menu includes pancakes, sausage, breakfast potatoes, scrambled eggs with or without diced ham, orange juice and coffee. Proceeds go to area veterans and youth and community programs. Cost is $7.50.
