For the first time in 16 years, the Bulldogs competed as a team amongst some of the best wrestlers in the state of Iowa.

The Lake Mills wrestling team competed in the state dual tournament Wednesday at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, placing seventh by the end of the day’s competition.

Competing in Class 1A, the Bulldogs entered the tournament with a 31-7 record and were the seventh seed in the eight-team 1A field.

In its first round of the tournament, Lake Mills faced second-seeded Don Bosco in the quarterfinals. The Dons won 54-24, sending the Bulldogs to the consolation bracket of the tournament.

Next, Lake Mills fell 50-28 against Westwood (Sloan), before defeating Sigourney-Keota 50-28 to claim seventh place.

While the Bulldogs as a team have finished their season, one wrestler will continue on to compete in the state individual tournament.

Slade Sifuentes, who was ranked second as of Wednesday, was set to face Devin Thompson of Westwood (Sloan) in the first round of the state individual tournament this morning.
