Panthers send 1 to state semifinals

ST. PAUL — One wrestler will represent NRHEG in the semifinals of the state tournament.

NRHEG’S Wyatt Fitterer guaranteed himself a place among the top six in his weight class by going 2-0 Friday during the Class A wrestling tournament at Xcel Energy Center.

At 285 pounds, Fitterer pinned Pierz’s David Skiba in 3:30 before winning a 10-3 decision over Frazee’s Tanner Tappe in Friday’s quarterfinals. He was scheduled to face Trent Esping of Minneota in the semifinals Saturday.

Cordell Peterson joined Fitterer in wrestling for the Panthers at the state tournament at 126. Peterson was edged by Long Prairie’s Jadon Buntjer in a 13-11 decision on Friday, and with Buntjer’s loss in the quarterfinals Peterson was eliminated from tournament action.
