50 years ago: 1966

The Wells High School basketball team raised its season record to 12-3 after defeating Faribault 55-43. The Wild Cats were led by Tom Colby with 15 points and Gene Hassin with 12.

The Albert Lea High School wrestling team won the Mythical Minnesota High School championship.

Jim Dybevik scored 22 points and Jim Carothers 16 for Austin High School in its 72-62 basketball victory over ALHS. Chuck Slette scored 17 points and Hollis Grorud 12 for the Tigers.

 

25 years ago: 1991

The ALHS boys’ hockey team finished the regular season with a 13-6 record after defeating Austin 6-2. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Todd Intihar, Brandon Thomas, Bill Klingbiel, Brett Adams, Brandon Hanson and Chad Hacker.

In the first round of the Section 1 hockey tournament, ALHS defeated Northfield 9-2. Scoring goals for the Tigers were Tom Keating with two, and Todd Intihar, Jason Gilderhus, Brett Adams, Brandon Hanson, Reid Olson, Mitch Tharaldson and Brandon Thomas with one each.

The Tiger City Sports team won the C Laker Volleyball League title with a perfect 32-0 record. Team members included Tom Nielson, Tom Jones, Gary Hillman, Will Beers, Duane Scherff, Marty Little and Al Schallock.

Ann Brandt scored 10 points for the Alden-Conger-Freeborn girls’ basketball team in its 40-35 win over Glenville-Emmons. The Wolverines were led by Kelly Peterson and Darc Escherich with 10 points each.

The A-C-F boys’ basketball team defeated Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton 84-74. Aaron Phillips scored 31 points and Kirk Peterson 25 for the Knights.

 

10 years ago: 2006

The NRHEG girls’ basketball team won the Gopher Conference title with a 10-0 record after defeating United South Central 58-50. Alison Anderson scored 22 points and Brittany Hansen 12 for the Panthers.

Parker Skophammer scored 20 points, including his 1,000th career point, in a 61-55 win over Rochester Century. A.J. Kortz added 16 points for the Tigers.

Casey Bowman scored two goals, and Alex Lair, Casey Woodside, Mark Walton and Dustin Arendt scored one goal each for ALHS in its 6-5 win over Mankato East.
