To the recipient of the 2016 Farm Family of the Year Award.thumb.up

Doug and Stacy Steele were awarded the 2016 Farm Family of the Year Award at the Tuesday Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce Agriculture Luncheon at the Fairlane Building at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds. The Steeles live in the Alden area, farm about 800 acres and raise about 10,000 pigs per year. Both Doug and Stacy grew up on farms. They have been married for over 20 years and have three sons. We appreciate your commitment to our area. Congratulations!

To the NRHEG girls’ basketball team.thumb.up

We commend the NRHEG girls’ basketball team for a successful season. Though the team lost its Section 2AA finals game to Norwood-Young America last week, the team kept us on the edge of our seats for the whole game. They went 23-7 overall, 7-3 in Section 2AA South and 9-3 in the Gopher Conference, finishing higher than all of the other teams in the Tribune’s coverage area. We look to see big things from this team next season.

Albert Lea High School health and physical education teacher Margo Wayne on Wednesday was named the 2016 Albert Lea Area Schools Teacher of the Year.

Wayne has been nominated for the award seven times since 1998. It was her third time as a finalist.

We thank Wayne and all of the other dedicated teachers in our area for the time and effort you put into your classrooms. We thank you, and our children thank you.
