Man injured putting out fire

An Albert Lea man was injured Monday morning after he reportedly attempted to stomp out a fire in his home on Massee Street.

The man, whose name has not been released, received burns to his foot and was treated at the scene by Gold Cross ambulance paramedics, according to the Albert Lea Fire Department.

Firefighters responded to the house, at 1636 Massee St., at 3:35 a.m. Monday. Residents were home at the time of the fire and felt they had extinguished the blaze, but wanted the Fire Department to examine the situation, according to a news release.

Firefighters reportedly found burns to the flooring in the entry and a bedroom in the home and finished extinguishing the area.

Damage was estimated at $500.

The cause of the fire has not been released.

The fire is under investigation by the Albert Lea Fire Department with help from the Minnesota State Fire Marshal’s Office.

 

Fire damages garage 

Firefighters were called to a separate fire Sunday afternoon in a garage at 814 Minnesota Ave.

According to a news release, the homeowners were present at the time of the fire and called 911. When firefighters arrived, smoke and fire could be seen coming from the garage. They quickly extinguished the fire and kept it from expanding to the garage.

The fire reportedly started in a garbage can sitting next to the garage.

No one was injured, and damage to the exterior of the garage is estimated at about $3,000.
