Community Compass by Chris Chalmers

Common-unity.  What connections do we have to those who live in our area? Work, school, play, religion and so much more.  Albert Lea Area Community Education helps facilitate experiences that foster common-unity community for all ages. It is through community that we call this area our home.

The Community Education Enrichment office has moved from Albert Lea High School to the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center at 147 N. Broadway to better serve the public. With convenient parking and easy access to the lobby of the theater we hope this makes participating even easier in 2017.  Programming will continue to take place at all the schools in the district as well as many local collaborating facilities and beyond. Community Education is offered through Albert Lea Area School District 241 and provides learning experiences for people of all ages.

A comprehensive description of these opportunities is mailed out to all District 241 residences four times a year. The winter 2017 issue has been delivered this past week — the front cover of the book is a photo of the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center.

Make a new year’s resolution to follow up on an interest of yours or try something new. Winter 2017 programming takes place from January through March. Registration is open.

Enrichment experiences can be a one-time class for one hour or a multiple-week experience. There is something for everyone offered this session: finance, fitness, multiple art mediums and much more.  Find something that works for your schedule. Try something by yourself or encourage a friend or relative to sign up with you. An investment in you is worth it.

The Community Education enrichment office is open 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday to assist in registrations, and all classes can be signed up for online 24 hours a day at http://albertlea.k12.mn.us/community-education or call 507-379-4834 during business hours or leave a message.

Gather. Discover. Grow.  Continue to seek common-unity in 2017.
