AUSTIN - The comeback kids came up short this time.
The Glenville-Emmons baseball team, which has rallied from behind so many times this year, fell behind once too often Tuesday and lost 8-7 to Kenyon-Wanamingo in a sub-section tournament game at Austin.
"We just ran out of gas," said coach Louie Toulouse. "We kept coming from behind, coming from behind, but we couldn't put them away. It's been the story of our whole year."
But it was an excellent year for the Wolverines, who finished 15-8 overall and shared the championship in the Western Division of the Southeast Conference at 6-2.
"I think we had a pretty good year," said Toulouse. "We're disappointed we lost, because we wanted to go to section. But I think, at the beginning of the year, if someone had told us we'd win 15 games, we'd be happy."
Andrew Greibrok was the lone Wolverine with more than one hit Tuesday, going 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI. Matt Learn was 1-for-3 with a two-run home run. Adding one hit apiece were Seth Stadheim, Richie Mathis, Brandon Brackey, Jay Wadding, Nick Flatness and Brian Soper.
Greibrok started on the mound and pitched 1 2/3 innings, allowing four earned runs on three hits; he walked three and struck out one. Mitch Meier went the final 5 1/3 innings and took the loss.
