ALHS golf girls make progress at New Prague

Published Sunday, April 28, 2002

NEW PRAGUE - It was definitely a step in the right direction for the Albert Lea High School girls' golf team.

The Tigers, who haven't broken 400 since their season opener, shot 385 while placing fifth in Friday's New Prague Invitational.

"For us to be under 400 is great," said Tigers coach Gina Eppen.

Shawna Mummert led the Tigers with a 90. Other scores: Kari Nelson 94, Brie Woitas 98, Jackie Montag 103, Katie Demmer 108, Amie Hartman 112.

Waconia and Bloomington Jefferson both shot 340, with Waconia winning by tiebreaker.

The Tigers were without Hayley Westney, who has the team's best scoring average this spring.

"For the girls to pick up the slack was impressive," said Eppen.

The Tigers host Faribault and Rochester John Marshall Monday at Albert Lea Country Club.
