Albert Lea golf girls second in home triangular

Published Tuesday, April 30, 2002

The Albert Lea High School girls' golf team played well enough to win the triangular.

The Tigers just couldn't beat Katie Myos.

Myos shot an impressive 79 for 18 holes to lead Faribault to first place with 403 strokes at Albert Lea Country Club. The Tigers were three strokes back at 406. Rochester John Marshall had 465.

"All of our girls played pretty solidly," said ALHS coach Gina Eppen. "We usually have someone in the 90s. That didn't happen today. It was pretty windy and we were coming off a weekend. But overall I was pretty happy with our scores."

Myos scored an outstanding 36 on the back nine after shooting 43 on the front.

Amie Hartman led the Tigers with a 100. Angie Wagner, Shawna Mummert and Brie Woitas all shot 102, Kari Nelson 105, Jackie Montag 116.

The Tigers were without their top scorer, Hayley Westney, who missed her second straight competition with a sore back.

The victory over John Marshall was the Tigers' first Big Nine win of the season.

The Albert Lea junior varsity remained unbeaten with a nine-hole triumph Monday. The Tigers had 240 strokes, Faribault 278, John Marshall 301. Scoring for the JV: Betsy Paulson 54, Kaeli Wayne 60, Laura Ellingson 63, Catie Rebelein 63.

The Tigers are off until Thursday, May 5, when they host Fairmont in a rescheduled meet at Albert Lea CC.
