Albert Lea girls' golf team drops dual with Century
Published Tuesday, April 29, 2003
It may not be happening by leaps and bounds but, according to coach Shawn Riebe, it definitely is happening.
The Albert Lea High School girls' golf team is showing some progress despite a season that has yet to produce a victory. On Tuesday, the Tigers lost 369-445 to Rochester Century in an 18-hole dual meet at Albert Lea Country Club.
"We're showing steady improvement," said Riebe. "Our younger kids are stepping in. It's just steady, slow and sure improvement. We still need to get out and practice some more, but the scores are improving. Our main goal is to keep focused on enjoying golf and improving."
Scoring for the varsity Monday were Kaeli Wayne 103, Catie Rebelein 112, Brie Woitas 115, Laura Ellingson 115, Kelsie Walton 118 and Nicole Stotts 126.
The junior varsity won 238-247 for nine holes. Ali Arnold shot 52 for the Tigers, followed by April Heilmann with 59, Kyra Danneker 63 and Brooke Woitas 64.
The Tigers play Thursday at Faribault.
